About us
Terrey Hills Riding School was established in 1986 by Jill Severn. English-born and trained, Jill grew up riding and training horses, and in 1986, after 13 years running a school in America, Jill moved to the Terrey Hills district and started the local riding school business, teaching all ages and levels of riders, specialising in novice ladies and kids 10+. Jill bred, trained and competed horses up to 2* eventing, but her real specialty and gift with horses is keeping them healthy, happy and sound for students to enjoy.
After more than 30 wonderful years in the industry, Jill made the decision to move back to the cooler climate of Devon, England, and handed the reins of the riding school to Lauren Seeley.
Lauren migrated to Australia from Canada in 2004 and found work using her formal qualifications as an IVF genetic scientist. For over 10 years, Lauren worked as a scientist in the city while balancing her love and passion for horses by riding and training as an obsessive hobby in her spare time. In 2017, Lauren quit her job as a scientist to work with horses full-time, coaching, teaching lessons, and training and riding her own and client horses. For Lauren, the best part about giving up the ‘city job’ to work with horses and riders full time is spending each and every day being outdoors, doing something she loves, and sharing that passion and the joy of the horses with others who feel the same.
Lauren currently competes at 2* level eventing, elementary dressage, and 1.20m showjumping with the ambition and aspiration to train and compete at higher world-class levels. Lauren holds EA level 1 coaching accreditation.
In 2020, Izzy joined THRS on a casual basis. An EA qualified coach and show jumping rider with over 10 years experience in the industry working for some of Australia’s leading riders, Izzy has enjoyed success producing her own horses to some big wins at prestigious shows such as Sydney Royal and Jumping at Willinga Park; she has also very successfully dabbled in the eventing world. Izzy focuses on helping all levels of horse and rider improve their basics and progress their personal riding goals.
